I found this organization through the forum at Bulldogs World. I cannot stop checking out the blogs of the bulldogs in rescue. It is so nice what they are doing for the rescue bullies. The blogs are so cute, some of them written from the dogs perspective. Here’s a sample of Moose’s blog after day 3 in rescue.
I’z doin’ sew much betta tewday! I wakes up in da mornin’ sew refreshed and tanksful dat I gotz a warm bed and good food tew eat! I jump up on mommie sumtimes cuz I gets so happy to see her and she’s teachin’ me dats not weally allowed. Mommie said dat someone must have lubbed me at sum point cuz I alweady know how tew give “paw.” Tanks everybodee fore yaw support, I’z gettin’ betta day by day. Here are sum pics after my baf!
It really breaks my heart to read the stories of the dogs and how they were found and the problems they have. I cannot believe that someone would mistreat a dog like this.
Anyway, I just wanted to write about this because it has really made me sad, but happy that there are loving people out there wanting to help these innocent boys and girls. They are a non-profit organization and lots of money is needed to get the care needed for these guys. If you would like to donate, you can go to their home page and at the top, click on the PayPal Donate button.
Edit: I just donated $25. I thought I couldn’t donate “enough” money, but then I read that with rescue, any amount is needed. So I thought, why not!

Gunther was neutered on May 27th and he flew right through it. He didn’t have any problem at all, not even vomiting. I dropped him off early that morning, and we picked him up at around 4:00pm. He was a little groggy the rest of the night but by the time the morning came, he was completely back to normal. We haven’t taken him to the dog park yet, but were walking him the next day. I think maybe the stitches are already dissolved.
Saturday, Trish and I are going to take Gunther and Bruiser to Woofstock. We’re pretty excited. I do think it’s going to be quite tiring to cart the pups around all day. They are going to crash after being there a few hours. I’m worried about Gunther though because it is supposed to be quite hot. I’m going to bring my water and some towels, and hopefully we won’t have a problem. I will always be a worried mom! Here’s a pic of Gunther at 8 months old! I can’t believe it!

Marc and I went to the drive in on Saturday night. We left at around 6:30pm and got back at 2am. I was so worried about him. We had never been gone for that long before. Anyway, we walked in the door and We saw that Gunther has pooped all over the carpet. There were about 6 different spots. I walked Gunther to his crate so we could clean up. We did not get mad at him, we comforted him. This is the first time this has happened, and initially we thought he had an upset stomach or maybe he was mad at us that we were gone for so long. So we cleaned it up, and then we all went to bed around 3am.
I woke up at about 7am and Gunther got up because I did. He was in the living room and started heaving. He threw up once which was all liquid and then he threw up again. He threw up this BIG mass of something. I have no clue what it was. I went and woke Marc up because it was really startling. He seemed completely fine before, after and now. I kept the mass in a paper towel, and called our breeder the next day. She asked me to send her a photo of it, but she said it was just something he swallowed. We still don’t know what it is, but it has a toy like texture. If you really want to look, it is here, but it is really gross! We’re very happy he threw it up cause anything big like that could of caused a major blockage.
So that’s about it. Gunther is getting neutered tomorrow. Our little puppy. Life is becoming more enjoyable with our 4 legged baby.
And I will close with a pic of Gunther getting a lovely rub-down from daddy. He loves it so much, he lays so still!

I have to apologize with the lack of updates for Gunny, Mommy has been a very busy lady! Gunther is doing pretty well. He turned 7 months about a week ago and is his usual self. Here is my newest favourite pic of Gunther. This was taken the evening that he met up with Bruiser and they had a walk/play session. He was VERY tired that evening.
Marc has accepted a job working from home, and Gunther is adjusting very well. He sleeps most of the day and is still his usual terror at night. We just started Doggie Daycare taking him to the dog park 2x a week, for some extra fun playtime.
Gunther is doing well with the tricks too! He’s not quite Preston, but I have taught him to turn in a full circle, and Marc and I have both taught him to catch stuff in his mouth. He loves his treats so he likes to impress!

When is life with Gunther going to get easier? It is still really challenging. His increase of freedom has not really made much of a difference in his energy levels. They are still really high. As opposed to 19h, he is crated for 5 hours a day. He has been good around the house when we’re not there, but for the last 2 days, he has chipped off the beveled plastic around the windows in the french doors. He’s been very jumpy and bitey still. I am trying my hardest to discipline him. I think Marc is a bit softer than me. Who would of thought?!
I have taught him to crawl and to catch kibble when we throw it. He is so cute when crawling. He sometimes cheats and does a bunny hop! lol Marc and I were saying that when he is calm, he is a great dog. It’s these hyper times that we can’t stand him. Last night I couldn’t even lay on the couch with Marc without him barking and jumping up a million times regardless of how we tried to discipline him. This is way more than I bargained for. I don’t feel guilty in saying that. I love him a lot, and we will find a way to deal with him. Hopefully with age, he will naturally settle down like a bulldog should be!

I finally got around to submitting all of the claims for Gunther’s vet appointments since we had him. The policy has a 2 week waiting period from the day you sign up for illnesses that will not be covered. Well 2 days after I subscribed, and less than a week of having him, we started noticing him sounding really congested. We called Lori, our breeder, and she was worried that maybe he swallowed something or had a touch of kennel cough or something. So we got worried, and took him to an after hours clinic where they said he sounded fine, but prescribed something for his symptoms. We denied the meds, because we were seeing our vet for the first time the next day and thought this particular doctor was a bit shady.
We told the vet that he sounded congested and once again, he said he seemed fine, but prescribed amoxicillin. So I get a letter the other day saying, they have put an exception on the policy for respiratory problems. I called them and explained that they didn’t find anything wrong with him, they prescribed it for preventative measures.
I’m a little annoyed. Now I have to get the vet to call the insurance company and explain what he meant. (HOPEFULLY, he agrees with what I got out of the appt). If not, we’re screwed. I just have this bad feeling. I dont care about the cost. I just don’t want this to stay on his record. If we need an expensive respitory surgery done later on, they won’t cover it.
So, hopefully things will ride in our favour. I’ll cross my fingers, and Gunthers! lol

Look at this poor little chicken. Gunther was so excited to have a new toy. Whenever he gets a new toy, he sniffs it out, grabs it in his mouth, and scurries to the couch to chew. He did the same with the chicken. All the string you see, is the chicken’s legs. They were rope legs with feet on the end, kinda like the detached wing you see above. He got the feet off the first night, then the legs unraveled and detached and then he took the wing off. When he took the wing off, the poor chicken went in the garbage. He chews and chews and before you know it, the toy is done. My dad brought him a rope toy with a tennis ball attached Wednesday night, and by Thursday night, it was in the garbage! We’re so worried about him swallowing a piece of the toy, we throw it out when it gets “risky”. What a guy with a strong jaw and teeth!
